Back in the day, baby showers were intended as a way to celebrate an imminent birth -- and allow other women to share wisdom and lessons on the art of becoming a mother. Now, baby showers have gotten all modern, it's not uncommon for them be co-ed affairs and the emphasis can be more on the mother of the child, rather than the baby itself.
Enter the baby shower industry -- and a never-ending assortment of hilarious (and horrifying) shower-themed foods. Behold.
Yes, babies are cute, but I have seen enough rattle-, rubber ducky-,pacifier-, baby carriage-, bassinet-, and baby-inspired foods for a lifetime. If I ever saw one of these cakes (pictured below), I would lose my appetite.
Call me crazy, but games including baby food or smeared chocolate in diapers are not my idea of fun.
The best baby showers preserve everyone's dignity -- including the mom-to-be's.
Below are a few less-silly shower menu ideas to consider -- depending upon whether you choose brunch, teatime, or cocktail hour.
Brunch:
Party Favors: French Macaroon with Raspberry-Rose Buttercream
Teatime:
Party Favors: Butterfinger Truffles and Green- Tea Truffles
Cocktail Hour:
Party Favors: Salted Chocolate Caramels and Candied Espresso Walnuts
